Monday Outlook: Manpris

Warning to all frat stars, chubbies enthusiasts, Nantucket prepsters, and southern gentlemen alike. There is a movement in the works this spring that will scare you back into your favorite pair of seersucker shorts until the wave passes. But not to worry, if you are that closed off anyways, you probably have no clue that its even happening.

Bermuda shorts were heavily featured during Fashion Week: London by a variety of high end designers such as Alexander McQueen and Fendi. I also bunch capri pants in with bermudas, they're essentially the skinny version anyways. This movement has been a long time coming seeing as the States are always behind Europe in the fashion department. National clothiers such as J. Crew and Banana Republic have made concerted efforts to make longer shorting options, but not the level that is going to be "trending" this spring.
Well done on the new album. Great stuff!
Popular spottings are as recent as last night at The Oscars with Pharrell Williams's capri'd out tuxedo. Esquire promptly notified its readers that if the other 99% of the male population were to try the look, it would crash and burn. Other appearances were brought to you by none other than style crock pot Russell Westbrook of the OKC Thunder, his outfit was a little more casual than Pharrell's though.
Injured reserve style? Why not.
Go find a pair in a high wear color that will go with everything and see how you feel about them. If you like how they feel, buy them, and if not, let this trend pass and return to the shorts you already have.

Celebrity Sunday: Matthew McConaughey

As of late, this actor has fallen to the back burner as he has taken on roles in movies with very little following. However, the acting has remained some of the best in the business by far; his short part in The Wolf on Wall Street might have been some of the most memorable minutes in that marathon of a movie.

Matthew McConaughey has been on the Hollywood scene for quite a while now and has starred in a variety of romantic comedies, action thrillers, and dramatic classics. This can only be chalked up to the fact that his acting and personality can be geared in variety of roles to pump out the award nominations. Tonight, he's up for the Best Actor at the Oscars for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, which was phenomenal, but he has some stiff competition this year with Leo and Christian Bale at the front of the pack with him.
This is how casual should be done.
His style has been most interesting because like most of the celebrities featured, they have had to evolve over the years to stay relevant. But what is different with McConaughey is that he started out rough, like the kind of rough that could have been deemed helpless; there was a period from 1998-2003 wear he rocked the same leather jacket in just about every photo taken of him. And from these style ashes rose a well dressed, dapper phoenix that most men strive to achieve today. He went from Texas good-ole-boy to California king, and has since been featured on the covers of the men's fashion bibles, GQ and Esquire, multiple times.
Covering the spectrum from business casual to gunmetal formal.

I am very excited to see how he does tonight, hopefully he wins so that Leo will still have the motivation to make even more great movies.

Check in tomorrow for a forecast into upcoming style trends and next Sunday for another stylish celebrity influence.

Saturday Spotlight: The Tie Bar

The most important aspects of any outfit are the details, and I never thought that this company would need to be the topic or a Spotlight. However, I have encountered a countless number of fashion enthusiasts who still are clueless to this company.

The Tie Bar is a great accessories company, started by Greg Shugar, specializing in ties, pocket squares, and yes of course, tie bars. The most attractive part of their offering is the fact that they're offering high quality products at near-consignment pricing. A $15 tie, $15 tie bar, and a $8 pocket square? Sounds like the foundations of a great accessory collection to me.
Such a wide selection of ties, squares, etc.
It is hard to find good ties, but The Tie Bar consistently offers quality products so there isn't much to worry about. My only guidelines are to stick with the wool and silk ties, whether they're knitted or knot. Some of their cotton ties look great but may or may not be as nice in person, so just avoid that hassle altogether by sticking to the classics.
GQ loves The Tie Bar! Get on board with the movement!
The company has recently expanded into lapel flowers and colored shoe laces but look for a combo offering between The Tie Bar and Greg Shugar's latest venture, The Thread Experiment. I haven't been able to find any info on this project, but i can assume it is centric to the ideals that The Tie Bar is founded on, so be on the lookout.

Check in tomorrow for a notable style icon and next Saturday for an exciting new company in the fashion industry!
